Lake Atitlán, Guatemala
$1,300 - 1,600
Does the idea of spending a week surrounded by natural beauty, breathing fresh air, eating healthy food, practicing yoga, painting and co-creating inspire you? Then come join yoga teacher Laura Golden and artist Kelley Morris in these stunning surroundings for a unique retreat/vacation/creation experience in the heart of Guatemala’s Mayan highlands on the picturesque shores of Lake Atitlán.
You will enjoy both a yoga and an art class every day, morning meditation, and in the evenings, we will gather together to co-create in any way that moves you: painting, writing, making music, dancing, practicing yoga…whatever form you choose to channel your energy and vision.
Laura will teach a juicy vinyasa flow aimed at opening the body’s energy centers (chakras)—especially the second, Svadishthana, which is related to creativity. All classes will include breathing exercises, yoga philosophy, a brief meditation, and a long, delicious final relaxation. Some experience with yoga is suggested so you can follow the class more easily, but there will be options for all levels, and props are available to modify.
Art classes will provide an opportunity for playful, spontaneous expression focusing on the joyful experience and process of creating rather than a final product. No artistic “talent” is needed. Using paint, mixed media, and even elements of nature at times, Kelley will guide participants through projects that explore the inner, more intuitive side, reawakening your colorful, creative spirit!
Villa Sumaya is an eco-oriented, full-service retreat center and spa situated right on the lake. Each room is uniquely decorated and includes a private bath and a patio with a view of the three perfect volcanoes surrounding the lake—a magical and magnetic place filled with beauty and energy. It is the ideal place for rest, reflection, rejuvenation and inspiration.
We will be staying in the Maya Rose House, which is ranch style and built around a central a courtyard. Daily classes will be held in the Blue Tiger Temple, a lakefront studio complete with yoga props.
Please bring a journal, and an open heart and mind. All art materials are included in the price of the retreat, but feel free to bring your own as well.
